Will Kevin Smith's 'Red State' Redfine Independent Filmmaking?

Kevin Smith's "Red State" created the biggest buzz at Sundance yesterday, not so much for the film itself--which so far has had merely tepid reviews--but for the shocking twist the director presented at the end of the film's screening.

Kevin Smith, an avid Tweeter, had been hyping his new film's Sundance screening for weeks, with the special announcement that he would be auctioning off the film's distribution rights immediately at the end of the screening. As it turns out, however, the auction was a fake and merely a ploy for Smith to reveal that he would be distributing "Red State" himself.
